Three months before pregnancy, Yeimi received a medical diagnosis that she was a carrier of the Zika virus. Her daughter Nahomi was born with microcephaly as a result of the Zika virus.

In this TEDx Youth Talk in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Saroja speaks of the journey she and her family have taken with her son, Kosala.  Kosala is a prize-winning Sri Lankan dancer (jump toward the end of this talk to watch him dance).  Kosala and his dance troop performed at the International Conference for Birth Defects and Disabilities in the Developing World 2020.

 

Music can bring out the inherent creativity and spiritual energy present in children affected by congenital Zika syndrome as well as provide parents with new inspiration for how to support their child’s quality of life.
